Dubai: A pilot has been jailed for one month after he was caught exposing himself and committing a lewd act on the balcony of a luxurious hotel at Dubai Downtown.
The five-star hotel’s security were said to have taken photos of the American pilot standing naked in the balcony of his hotel room and committing a lewd act.
Despite having entered a not guilty plea, the American defendant was jailed for one month after he was found guilty of committing a lewd act in public by the Dubai Misdemeanours Court.
A Nepalese security guard was on duty when he spotted the defendant.
Court records said the Nepalese guard immediately approached the hotel’s security supervisor and informed him.
The head of security went to check the scene and when he saw the American man, he photographed the defendant committing the lewd act.
Records said when the hotel’s security guard went to the man’s room to ask him to stop, he did not answer the door.
The Nepalese witness testified to police interrogators that he heard a number of hotel guests and residents, who lived in residential units around the hotel, shouting when they saw the defendant on the balcony.
Sources close to the case told Gulf News: “Prosecutors produced the photos that exposed the accused standing in the balcony and committing the lewd act as materialistic evidence against the defendant.”
Meanwhile, the hotel’s head of security told police interrogators that the defendant had been caught earlier for similar behaviour.
“We received a number of complaints from guests and tourists, who stayed at the hotel, that the defendant had committed the same lewd act on the balcony a number of times. When summoned by the hotel management, the American admitted to the lewd act and promised not to repeat it. He was made to sign an undertaking in which he promised [in writing] not to repeat the lewd behaviour otherwise the required legal action would be taken against him,” claimed the head of security.
According to the primary court ruling, the pilot denied his accusation when he showed up in court.
His lawyer argued that the hotel’s balcony is not considered a public place and asked the court to dismiss the charge of committing a lewd act in public.
However, the court convicted the defendant who will be deported following the completion of his jail term.
The ruling remains subject to appeal within 15 days.
