Dubai: Police have arrested two Arab men suspected of killing an Arab-American businessman inside a hotel room here.
The first suspect was arrested at his residence within a record time of four hours after police launched an investigation into a man reported missing, Dubai Police said.
The Arab-American businessman, identified only by his initials N.G.D, was found inside the hotel room. A forensic examination revealed he was killed after receiving a hard blow to the head using a wooden plank taken from a part of a drawer.
Major-General Khalil Ebrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant to the Dubai Police Chief for Criminal Investigation Affairs, explained that Al Muraqqabat Police Station had received a call from the nephew of the businessman saying that he had lost contact with his uncle while he was in the country.
A field team and other technical experts gathered information about the missing businessman, who frequently visited Dubai for long periods and stayed at different hotels.
After locating his last hotel, police obtained a legal search warrant to search his room.
“Investigators found that the businessman was hit by a wooden drawer and that he had been dead for about 48 hours,” said Lt Colonel Adel Al Joker, Director of Criminal investigation Department (CID) at Dubai Police.
A team was then assigned to identify and hunt the suspects.
How swift arrest was made
With the help of artificial intelligence techniques at the Data Analysis Center, the police identified the perpetrator and his nationality.
“He turned out to be a 25-year- old Arab visitor who had accompanied the businessman to his hotel room. The police teams were able to locate the perpetrator’s residence and arrested him in a record time,” he said.
During investigations, the offender admitted that he had accompanied the businessman to his hotel room and that he stole the victim’s wallet after beating him on the head with a wooden plank and fled the scene when the victim lost consciousness.
He also admitted to stealing a bank card from the businessman and giving it to his accomplice, also an Arab, who helped him withdraw cash from the card.
The accomplice was also arrested.
The case has been transferred to the Public Prosecution in Dubai to complete legal procedures and investigations against the suspects.
Meanwhile, Major General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, praised the readiness of the CID department and its teams to deal with all cases with professionalism and high speed.
Maj-Gen Al Marri appreciated the efforts of the Data Analysis Center at the General Department of Criminal Investigation and the use latest technologies and systems to identify the perpetrator in a record time.
He said the use of latest high-tech programs at the Center contributed to the speed of arrest and the revelated of circumstances surrounding the murder and established the motives.
