The Supreme Council of Childhood has announced the winners of the Sharjah Award for Children's Paintings, with Ghilass Ghali of Libya winning first prize in the category for people with special needs.
The panel of judges comprising Hisham Al Madhloum, Talal Mualla and Hilmy Al Touni, announced that Amal Shai'a Manahi from Abu Dhabi, and Omar Yassin from the Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services won second and third prizes respectively in the same category.
Other disabled artists who won prizes included Rashid Eid, Sumayya bin Khalaf, Abdulmonem Farwan, Noran Khalifa Babakir, Saeed Saif, Khalid Salem and Khalid Radhwan.
Ayat Humaid Jafar of Iraq won first prize in the category for children below nine years. Ahmed Salah of Egypt, and Maitha Musabbah of the UAE won second and third prizes respectively in this category.
In the category for children above nine, Mariam Salim of the UAE won first prize, while Sara Mohammed and Sali Adel won second and third prizes respectively.
The judges recommended a poster by Mariam Ali Ashor from Iraq be adopted as the Palestinian Cause Poster that should be circulated in all Arab countries taking part in the award.
The panel praised Sharjah Children's Cultural Centres for the key role they play in organising the award and making it a success.
