Dubai: You can now get a kiss and cuddle from sea lions in Dubai at Atlantis, The Palm resort.
The newest members of the Atlantis family, which include dolphins and countless other marine life, are available for the close encounter at Sea Lion Point, located in Dolphin Bay.
The 10-minute experience is priced at Dh425 for day visitors and Dh275 for in-house guests.
Under supervision of specialists, the South African Fur Seals display a variety of behaviours, including performing handstands or dance moves. Supervisors also educate guests about the mammals.
The kiss-cuddle opportunity is framed in a free souvenir photo.
“This interaction aims to be enriching for both the guests and the marine mammals,” said Heidi PerezCao, vice president, Sea Lion Point.
South African Fur Seals are found along the south and southwest coast of southern Africa. They can be generally found from South Africa to Angola.
One of the fur seals at the new venue, Molly, 19, was born in France and brought here.
Guests are guided on how to approach the fur seals, including what body posture to assume in making the most out of the opportunity. But it is also an opportunity to learn more about the creatures.
The term fur seals and sea lions are traditionally used for 15 different species, including the South African Fur Seal from the family Otariidae. These mammals are anatomically different from the species referred to as seals. Sea Lions have external ear flaps and their flippers are much longer, which assist with movement on land.
Each Sea Lion Photo Fun session has a maximum of 10 guests and participants must be at least six years of age. All children between six and 12 must be accompanied by a paying adult (18 years and above).
Sessions are available at 11:15 am and 3:15 pm daily. Each booking includes all day access to Aquaventure Waterpark, 25 per cent off same-day admission to The Lost Chambers Aquarium and a free souvenir photo.
