Sharjah: The Wasit Wetland Centre, a nature reserve run by Sharjah’s Environment and Protected Areas Authority, on Wednesday announced the hatching of three Goliath heron chicks at its breeding centre for endangered wildlife on March 7, 9 and 11.

Both parents were born in 2014, but were moved to Wasit’s aviary when it opened in 2015. Between them they have laid five clutches of eggs, but with no previous success.

The Goliath herons are part of a coordinated breeding programme with the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria.
