Fujairah: Five people were killed and nine injured in road crashes over the past four days in Fujairah.

Among the dead was a 12-year-old boy and a Bahraini football player.

On Saturday, two men were killed and one injured in a collision between two cars in Dibba. The injured were rushed to hospital.

Officials said the collision happened when the Emirati driver of a Toyota car with an Abu Dhabi plate number hit the accelerator instead of the brake as he was about to reach a roundabout in front of a cement factory.

As a result, he hit another car carrying three Asian men — two of whom were killed and a third injured.

The Emirati driver has been identified as a 28-year-old military officer. It is understood that he was travelling from Abu Dhabi with his family, which was not harmed.

On the same day, the driver and passenger of a Nissan Patrol were killed after the driver lost control of the vehicle, which spun out of control and rolled over four to five times. The other passenger sustained moderate injuries.

The accident happened at around 4am on Al Nejemat Road, while the victims were travelling from Dubai to Fujairah.

Police officials said the vehicle, with a Sharjah number plate, hit a concrete barrier and smashed into a lamp-post before rolling over.

The funeral of the 20-year-old Emirati driver from Sharjah was held on Saturday. The other victim, 28-year-old footballer Mohammad Nour Al Deen, was from Bahrain.

He played for Al Najma, a top Bahrain league side. He also played for the Bahrain national team.

Brigadier Mohammad Ahmad Bin Ganem Al Kaabi, Commander-in-Chief of Fujairah Police, told Gulf News that the Bahrain embassy in the UAE is starting procedures to repatriate the footballer’s body.

On Friday, a young Emirati man sustained serious head injuries when his car crashed into a lamp-post in Fujairah. He was transferred to Fujairah hospital for treatment.

On Thursday, a 12-year-old Emirati boy was killed and his 15-year-old friend seriously injured when a car behind ploughed into their bicycles on the Khor Fakkan-Fujairah Road

Police have arrested an Emirati motorist suspected of being responsible for the hit-and-run accident. The man denies being involved in the incident.

The boy’s funeral was held late on Thursday at Al Sharq Cemetery.

The surviving boy was in a critical condition on Sunday. He is being treated at Fujairah hospital.

Fujairah Police have deployed more patrols in the city, Al Kaabi said. They have urged motorists to abide by speed limits and pay attention.
