Omanis caught trying to smuggle a large quantity of narcotics

Muscat: Two Omani citizens have been caught by the Royal Oman Police (ROP) for allegedly trying to smuggle a large quantity of narcotics, according to an ROP statement on Saturday.

The two were arrested on charges of smuggling.

"The alleged drug smugglers were smuggling a large quantity of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, which included 46, 730 pills and 11 kilograms of hashish," the ROP said.

The Drug Enforcement Administration of ROP in Musandam, just next to the border with UAE's Fujairah, received information that suspected drug dealers were trying enter Oman to hand over drugs to the Omani suspects.

The ROP discovered drugs concealed in Qab Ali area close to the sea.

The case has been referred to the public prosecution.

Recently, ROP's Drug Enforcement Administration in Musandam apprehended two Omanis carrying 39 kilograms of hashish. The ROP unit also arrested an Asian expatriate carrying more than 86,000 pills from a beach in Musandam.
