Ras Al Khaimah: A 25-year-old Emirati woman drowned, while her three children remained missing, after the family vehicle was swept into a wadi by surging floodwater after torrential rain.

Her husband was rescued and police were searching for the couple’s missing children.

Ras Al Khaimah Police operation room received a call on Wednesday evening saying a vehicle carrying an Emirati family was swept in Al Qur valley in Al Munyai area.

Brigadier Ganem Ahmad Ganem, director of central operations at Ras Al Khaimah Police, said residents of the area, who witnessed the incident, pulled the vehicle and rescued the father while his wife and three children, two boys and a daughter, were swept into the wadi.

After searching, police managed to recover the body of the woman while the three children were still missing. Efforts were underway to find the children.

The husband, identified as A.A.K., has been admitted to the hospital for treatment.

Ali Saeed Al Dahmani, administrator of the area, told Gulf News he received the sad news about the family and they were working hard with other departments, including the municipality, to send their tankers to remove the rain water.

He said the father was driving on a sandy road and tried to cut across the 500-metre valley but the rain water swept their vehicle.

Meanwhile, Brg. Ganem said that RAK police deployed more patrols to control traffic flow in the areas hit by seasonal showers, and urged drivers to take due precautionary measures.

The mountainous valleys are filled with rain water, he added.

“The public are urged to avoid the valleys and slippery roads, and contact the central operations room in case of emergency.
