Ljubljana, Slovenia: A delegation of Emirates Scouts took part in the international exchange of cultures night, which was held on the sidelines of the 40th World Scout Conference. The Emirates Scouts presented souvenirs among the delegations representing 162 national scout associations from around the world.
The UAE delegation also participated in the conference sessions, which focused on the strategy and the vision of the Scout Movement until 2023.
The sessions began with a paper presenting the strategy of the scout movement by Simon Lee, Chairman of the World Scout Committee.
The paper presented a strategic framework for the Scout Movement that seeks to transform it as a leading educational movement in the world by 2023 so as to offer the opportunity to 100 million young people to become active citizens in bringing about positive changes in their communities on the basis of shared values.
Six priorities
The head of the World Scout Committee stressed the importance of achieving the six priorities in the strategy of the World Scout, which will come about through the youth participation and the provision of learning programmes designed to enhance capabilities, and that the youth bring about social impact by offering their services to the community, and activating the contacts and relationships through common communication among the world youth and find some kind of constructive cooperation in order to build a world of security and harmony
After that, Secretary General Scott Terry presented a paper which dealt with the most important work carried out by the World Scout Organisation during the past three years. He added that the youth scouts should be given the opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to play an active and affective role in the Scout movement and in their communities.
In the field of educational methods, he added that scout movements have to work to provide an unofficial learning environment aimed at strengthening the capacity of young people to face the challenges of the future. Moreover, he pointed out that the scout movement has to work to attract the young, and to achieve the scout vision to become an established learning environment that helps young people to provide them with life skills.
