Ras Al Khaima: Three European tourists, who lost their way while hiking on a mountain, were rescued by Ras Al Khaimah Police’s Air Wing on Sunday.

Lieutenant Colonel Saeed Rashid Al Yamahi, who heads the Air Wing at Ras Al Khaimah Police said the operations room received a call about three hikers who were lost in Shaam area and needed help. A helicopter was then immediately dispatched to the mountainous area to rescue the climbers.

Teams from the Ras Al Khaima traffic police also worked together to find the missing tourists. Two were found on top and the third was found at the bottom of the mountain.

The rescue team found the hikers in poor health due to thirst and exhaustion. First aid was given to them at the site and then they were transported to hospital.

Lt Col Al Yamahi urged all members of the community to exercise caution when climbing mountains. He said the mountainous areas are rugged and special coordination must be carried out with the authorities to ensure safety.
