With hundreds of dishes from a vast array of ethnicities on offer, parents and children came together on October 5 in a communal setting to break the Ramadan fast at a grand iftar, hosted by the Parents Association at the Dubai International Academy (DIA).

The event, now in its second year, brought together an estimated 2,000 people, with contributions of culinary dishes by over 60 different nationalities.

Avi Bhojani, Managing Director of DIA, said, “The event is unique in that there is no other place in the world that we know of where this happens. For most families, they don't really know what Ramadan is—one thing they get to understand from this is the spirit of caring and sharing.''

The DIA will be presenting an initial cheque of Dh500,000 to Dubai Cares, and are expecting to donate another sum in three weeks time, with funds contributed by parents and students.

When speaking about Dubai Cares, a UAE-based humanitarian campaign which seeks to fund primary education for impoverished children, Bhojani said, “The important thing is not the total amount raised but that everybody does something individually.''
