Dubai: A mobile application that can show its user a road map, distance to, mobile number, e-mail address and website - among other information – of some 1,200 government buildings across the UAE, including hospitals and schools, was launched on Monday during the Ministry of Public Works press briefing.
The application, which will be available in the Apple store within the next two weeks, is an in-house project of the ministry, Abdullah Bel Haif Al Nuaimi, Minister of Public Works, said.
The application was a collaboration between engineers working in the ministry and the IT department.
Dha’en Al Muhairi, one of the engineers that worked on the application, who is also the head of the maintenance department at the ministry, said that the although the application is for Apple devices, the maps come up on Google maps.
He added that one can search by distance, for example, hospitals within 10 kilometres, as well as sharing the maps on social media or e-mail.
The application can be changed into English from the settings menu. He added that they will work on adding more departments to the database, as well as developing it for other mobile platforms.
The ministry’s tweets can also be accessed through the application.
