Sharjah: The "Sharjah Slasher" who was sentenced to two years in jail and fine of Dh2,000 for stabbing women, has been deported, an official said.
Jude Pereira, the serial attacker who preyed on women in the emirate last year was deported recently after serving his jail term in Sharjah Central Jail.
According to police, the 28-year-old Pereira, a Sri Lankan, was arrested in March last year after being accused of stabbing four women, putting an end to weeks of panic among residents who were terrified by the series of incidents, which had taken place in February.
Police said that Pereira confessed to police that he was involved in the incidents, he also claimed he was not in a stable frame of mind.
Pereira confessed to police that he had stabbed the women using a craft knife. When police raided his residence, they found three craft knives in a tin, two of which had been used.
According to police, the slasher first struck on February 13, when an Iraqi girl was stabbed near Khalid Lagoon. The second incident involved a Chinese woman, who was assaulted on February 15 while she was leaving her office at 3am, again near the Khalid Lagoon.
The third incident occurred on February 17, when a Syrian woman was stabbed at 11.45pm. The following morning, another woman became his fourth victim. She was stabbed at 2am while entering her building on the Al Mina Road.
Pereira claimed he was unaware of what he was doing when he was about to attack another woman - this time an undercover policewoman - walking on King Faisal street on the night of his arrest.
Pereira came on a visit visa to the UAE on January 20 last year this year, and was offered a job as computer programmer at a company, which was processing his residence visa.
Gulf News reported the first attack on February 25.
