Abu Dhabi: Around 100 items, which captures the history of the world and the significant role of the Middle East played within it, will soon captivate the interest of residents in the capital.

A History of the World in 100 Objects exhibition is a collaboration between the British Museum and the Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority (TCA) in a series leading up to the opening of Zayed National Museum in 2016.

The items will be displayed at the upcoming art exhibition, which will take place at Manarat Al Saadiyat in Saadiyat Cultural District from April 23 until August 2 for a period of 100 days.

“It is great anticipation that we welcome some of the world’s most precious objects to Abu Dhabi for the art exhibition, which come together to illustrate a history of humanity,” Shaikh Tahnoon Al Nahyan, chairman of TCA Abu Dhabi, said.

The exhibition will feature historic objects from China, Spain, Iraq and other countries to advance human understanding of the world around us, whilst others represent the surviving relics of lost civilisations.

The 100 objects will allow visitors to travel back in time and across the globe. Residents can also explore how humans have shaped the world and been shaped by it.

“I am delighted that the first exhibition will be taking place in the capital. Displayed objects have tremendous power and ability to tell stories, in many instances they are the only evidence we have for certain cultures so these kinds of temporary exhibition, and indeed the permanent displays in Zayed National Museum, are hugely important to aid our understanding of the world,” Neil MacGregor, director of the British Museum, said.

The exhibition will also feature a project made by Emirati student, Reem Al Marzouqi, who was able to invent a remarkable foot-controlled car for disabled people in 2013 at UAE University.
