Abu Dhabi: Nine extraordinary individuals received Abu Dhabi Award for their contributions to Abu Dhabi community. His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, honoured the awardees and personally congratulated them at a ceremony on Tuesday.

Here are the list of winners:-

Shaikh Mubarak Bin Qarran Al Mansouri

Born in 1939 in the Al Dhafra region of Abu Dhabi, he accompanied the late Shaikh Zayed throughout his youth and documented the traditions and values of the late leader. He is Chairman of the Western Region Judicial Department’s Conciliation Committee since 2007.

Farah Al Qaissieh

Grown up with a speech disorder, she overcame it and worked hard to change society’s attitude towards such people. In 2013, Al Qaissieh launched the “Stutter UAE” initiative, the country’s first support platform for such people. She is currently the assistant manager at Mubadala Emiratisation.

Dr Jayanti Maitra

A UAE resident since 1982, the Indian woman is a historian and researcher, who has spent decades documenting and archiving UAE history. In 1996, Dr Maitra joined the National Archives. She has authored two books on Abu Dhabi’s history.

Ali Bin Mana Bin Mifreh Al Ahbabi

Born in Al Ain in 1930, he is known for his passion for education and national initiatives. In 2008, he received the “Ideal Parent” award from the Education and Knowledge Department, formerly known as Al Ain Educational Zone. In 2006, Al Ahbabi established the Ibn Battuta International Training Centre, dedicated to human resources and corporate development.

Fatima Al Kaabi

Recognised as the youngest Emirati inventor in 2015, Fatima has had a passion for creativity and innovation since she was seven years old. She has won many awards, including the Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Distinguished Academic Performance in 2014.

Theban Salem Al Muhairi

He is among the first UAE nationals to take part in sports for people with determination. Despite being partially paralysed due to a spine injury from a car accident in 1994, he heavily contributed to developing the UAE Paralympic team.

Late Dr. Azzam Al Zoebie

He made significant contributions to Abu Dhabi’s medical sector as Consultant and Division Head of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology at Shaikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC). He raised awareness among patients and the community about blood diseases, and supported cancer patients until he passed away in May 2017 after a struggle with cancer at the age of 51.

Dr George Mathew

Dr George Mathew, was one of the first doctors who came to Abu Dhabi five decades ago, and the first to work in a public hospital in Al Ain. He witnessed the beginning of modern medicine in the UAE and contributed significantly to the advancement of health care services in the Emirate.

Ebrahim Abdul Rahman Al Abed

Currently Advisor to the National Media Council, is one of the most prominent and influential figures in the country’s media sector. Dr Al Abed is the founder, and until last year, the Director-General of the Emirates News Agency (WAM). Established in 1977, the multi-lingual news agency acts as the official source of UAE news globally.
