Dubai: Two advocate sisters have been accused of beating and cursing a policewoman when they were arrested outside a hotel for being drunk.

Law enforcement officers were said to have been summoned to Al Barsha area where two women were behaving waywardly outside a hotel in August.

A police patrol dispatched to the location found that the two intoxicated British advocates were behaving outrageously, according to records. One of the sisters was being treated in an ambulance car by paramedics, while the other was standing outside the ambulance and shouting, said records.

When the sisters refused to cooperate with the policeman, the latter contacted his supervisor, who instructed him to handcuff the advocates and bring them to the police station.

Outside the police station, the policeman called his female colleague to come and escort the sisters and then he walked into the station to get another handcuff.

When the policeman returned he realised that his female co-worker had been assaulted and pushed on the floor.

The sisters were restrained and put on a police bus to be sent for an alcohol test, during which they assaulted the policewoman again and cursed her.

Prosecutors charged the sisters of assaulting a policewoman and cursing her and referred them to the Dubai Court of First Instance.

They were also accused of getting drunk and are being tried before the Dubai Misdemeanours Court.

The suspects pleaded not guilty and refuted the charges when they showed up before presiding judge Urfan Omar on Monday.

The policewoman testified to prosecutors that the incident happened after the sisters were taken into custody for roguish behaviour outside a hotel while they were drunk.

“They surprisingly attacked me, and I don’t know why! They assaulted me and pushed me down on the floor … I fell down and injured my head and elbow. While they were being taken for an alcohol test, they cursed me and cursed Arab women. One of them also scratched my hand with her nails,” she told prosecutors.

Three policemen and a lieutenant confirmed their female colleague’s statement.

The suspects’ lawyer asked the court to summon prosecution witnesses to hear their statements when the court reconvenes soon.
