Abu Dhabi:Enhancing the role of the UAE’s investments abroad is a strategic objective for the Foreign Ministry, said Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Foreign Minister.

Shaikh Abdullah was speaking at a reception organised on Monday night under the slogan ‘The role of diplomacy in supporting national investments abroad’.

“During the past few years, the world witnessed many economic and political crises. In 2008, there was the global financial crisis, which led to a slump in the global economy. Many countries around the world faced crises and economic and financial difficulties, and we still feel the repercussion of these crises until now,” said Shaikh Abdullah.

“During the past two years the Arab world witnessed major political and economic events that resulted in instable conditions in some countries. This required the ministry to put in place a political strategy to deal with these events and protect our economic interests and investments. As such, we organised meetings and workshops with our national institutions and relevant ministries and studied these issues, and came up with plans to face them. We sent delegations from the foreign ministry, and other concerned ministries, and instructed our ambassadors abroad to carry out a number of steps that led to resolving most of these issues,” said Shaikh Abdullah.

Shaikh Abdullah said that enhancing the role of the UAE’s investment and trade abroad is one of the ministry’s strategic goals.

“The ministry works with UAE delegations abroad by coordinating and cooperating with national economy sector to protect its interests abroad, and striving to support its plans and investment by studying available opportunities and communicating with the national economy sector about them,”

The reception was attended by Sultan Saeed Al Mansouri, Minister of Economy, Mohammad Ahmad Al Murr, Federal National Council Speaker, Shaikh Ahmad Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation and Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates airline and Group, and other Shaikhs, ministers, and senior officials.
