Manama: Qatar has introduced a new system to simplify and speed up the process for birth registration and birth certificate issuance, the Supreme Council of Health (SCH) said.

Under the new system, Qataris can register births at the Women’s Hospital, and the certificate will be issued at the SCH building.

However, foreigners wishing to register a child born in Qatar can collect the certificate at the Women’s Hospital on registration day upon presenting the required documents.

The papers include copies of the passports of the mother and the father, a valid residence permit or the entry visa for non-residents, a copy of the vaccination card and a copy of the marriage contract.

A fee of QR20 is charged for the birth certificate, Qatari daily The Peninsula reported on Sunday.

The implementation of the new system starts Sunday and supplants the old process that required more documents and higher fees took one week to issue the birth certificate.
