Dubai: Calling all commuters and photographers: The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched on Tuesday a photography competition with a total prize money of Dh45,000. The competition aims to promote the use of public transportation in Dubai.

The competition is open for all photographers — professionals and hobbyists; residents or visitors of the UAE. It will kick off on June 27 and continue for three weeks. Participants are requested to submit minimum of three photos, including at least one photo for each theme of the competition: ‘Art and Architecture’ (aimed at capturing the beauty of landmarks, infrastructure, sites, street art and facilities across Dubai); ‘Public Transport’ (covering Dubai Metro, tram, ferry, Abra, taxis and buses); and ‘Emirati Culture and Lifestyle’ (places, events, local culture, Emirati spirit and national flavour).

RTA has collaborated with Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award (HIPA) for the photography competition.

Share beautiful moments

Ali Khalifa Bin Thalith, HIPA secretary-general, said: “The RTA has presented us with a diverse and dynamic canvas for photographers to flex their creative skills. Whether it is by land or water, RTA’s comprehensive transportation routes inspire our photographers to capture and share beautiful moments every day.”

“We invite the photography community (both professional and hobbyists) to pick up their cameras and explore RTA’s world of transportation by capturing moments under the three themes of competition. Every photographer can capture, through their creative lens, a particular quality, feeling, or moment they feel best reflects one of the competition themes,” he added.

Bin Thalith noted: “Photography not only captures a moment in time, but it also creates a memory that will live throughout time. In addition to some fantastic cash prizes, the winning participants will also have the opportunity to have their photograph printed onto the RTA nol card.”

Promoting mass transport

Yousif Al Redha, CEO of Corporate Administrative Support Sector at RTA, said: “Public transport is a part of people daily life culture in any city. We in Dubai have a diverse transport network that charts the daily lives of residents and tourists on the move in the emirate. Through the launch of this competition, we aim to raise awareness of various means of mass transport, and various tools and services available to use these means smoothly and easily.”

Participants are requested to submit a minimum of three photos reflecting each theme of the competition through HIPA’s official website — http://www.hipa.ae

Prizes

The total cash prize is Dh45,000. The first, second and third place winners will receive Dh10,000, Dh7,000, and Dh3,000 cash prizes respectively. Additionally, 25 nol cards with a purse value of Dh1,000 each will be distributed to 25 merit winners.

After announcing the winners, RTA said nol card users can select from three of the prize winning photos for printing on their personalised nol cards at the time of purchasing against a nominal fee.
