Dubai: The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai yesterday warned against utilising public parking lots for activities related to car selling and rental.

Adel Al Marzouqi, Director of Parking Department at the RTA, said: "Selling or renting vehicles at public parking in Dubai Emirate is an express infringement of RTA rules and car selling and rental regulations prevailing in the emirate."

The RTA also announced that it will take strict legal measures against offenders, according to the Local Order No. 9/2000, which prohibits offering vehicles for sale or rent in public parking spaces of Dubai.

One of the most common places to see vehicles for sale in parking lots is at Safa Park.

He called on all individuals to abide by the applicable rules and regulations, and practice car selling and rental activities through the legally authorised channels.

"Utilisation of car-parking in selling or renting vehicles phenomenon disrupts RTA efforts aiming at providing high class services, and trespasses the rights of others through depriving them from benefiting from the parking service, besides negatively impacting the tourist and urbanised profile of the emirate," he added.

Al Marzouqi pointed out that the RTA has provided public parking for the benefit of all residents, visitors and tourists of the emirate and is always keen on expanding and upgrading these important facilities to cope with the numbers of vehicles coming into Dubai.
