Abu Dhabi: A new automated tray return system to speed up the process of hand luggage screening has been installed at Terminal 3 at Abu Dhabi International Airport.
A press release sent by Abu Dhabi Airport said that the new system processes more than four times the number of baggage pieces than conventional screening lanes do. It also reduces reducing screening wait times and congestion, thus providing a smoother travel experience for passengers.
According to details provided in the statement, the tray return system has two buffer stations, seven redress stations for cleared trays, four reject stations for suspicious trays, and two search stations. It is equipped with two operator work stations allocated remotely in an imaging room, through which the live images can be analysed separately. Any trays containing suspect belongings will be diverted to the search area for further investigation, away from the cleared lane.
“We are constantly looking at ways to innovate so that we can provide our passengers with a smooth travel experience. With the [new hand luggage screening system], we can process more passengers per hour in a secure and controlled environment, improving overall operational efficiency and enhancing public safety and security,” said Mohammad Al Khateri, acting chief operations officer at Abu Dhabi Airports.
