Al Ain: A British all-female formation wing-walking team will perform at Al Ain International Aerobatic Show later this month, the organisers announced on Saturday.
The Guinot team is the world's only formation wing-walking team and is based in Gloucestershire in England. The team spends the summer months travelling across Europe and the world, performing in more than 80 seasonal wing-walking displays at different air shows, concerts, and carnivals.
The team will perform its brand-new formation display, which includes loops, rolls and low-level flypasts, in their 1940s Boeing Stearman biplanes.
Gruelling
The wing-walkers will experience a pull of more than four times their own bodyweight during the routine, as they hover 300 metres above the ground at speeds of more than 240 kilometres per hour, said an Al Ain Aerobatic Show spokesperson.
During the final flypast, in what is a truly death-defying manoeuvre, the brave women wing-walkers will unstrap themselves from their wing-riding rigs and wave at the crowd from a position between the cockpit and the wing.
Mohammad Abdullah Bin Barrak Al Daheri, General Coordinator of Al Ain Aerobatics Show said: "The international appeal of Team Guinot is down to the amazing formation aerobatics and the fact these daring wind-walkers wave and perform from the top wing at incredible speeds," said.
Jointly organised by the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA) and the UAE Air Force and Air Defence, with the cooperation of the World Air Sports Federation, Al Ain International Aerobatics Show runs from January 24 to 27. More than 110 aircraft will compete in the four-day family extravaganza.
