Abu Dhabi: The Fulbright Foreign Student Program competition for the 2018-2019 academic years is now open to applicants until May 13, 2017, the US embassy in the UAE announced on Thursday.

The academic exchange programme is funded by the US Department of State and provides Emirati students and young professionals the opportunity to pursue graduate-level study in the US.

The award includes funding for tuition and required fees, a book, equipment, and travel allowance, a monthly stipend for room and board; and also a supplemental health and accident coverage plan. All disciplines and fields of study are available to Emirati students.

In addition to academic training, Fulbright scholarships also provide transformative cultural exchange experiences.

Programme participants will be selected through a merit-based, open competition in which leadership potential, academic excellence and ability to adjust to life in the Unites States are all considered. Prospective students can apply online through the programme’s managers, AMIDEAST UAE.

Applicants must be UAE nationals, residing in the country throughout the application, selection and placement process. Applicants are also required to hold a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, possess a strong academic background, be proficient in English and/or able to attend a Long Term English (LTE) programme before the start of the study programme.

US citizens or green card holders are not eligible to apply for the programme. Preference will be given to students who have little or no previous experience studying or living in the United States.
