Sharjah: An Asian maid has been sentenced to six months in jail for killing her baby after she aborted the foetus and buried it in a garden in Al Buhairah area.
The Sharjah Criminal Court on Tuesday ordered the Indonesian mother to pay a Dh2,000 fine. She will be deported after serving her sentence.
Her two accomplices, an Indonesian woman and a Pakistani man, were also sentenced to six months in jail and fined Dh2,000.
The prosecution charged her with intentionally killing her illegitimate baby.
According to prosecutors’ record, the maid had an illicit affair with the Pakistani man.
The incident took place on February 25 when the police arrested the housemaid.
The police unravelled the mystery behind the body found by a municipality worker while he was cleaning the garden.
The body was found buried between palm trees near Al Noor mosque.
The mother and her friends who helped her were arrested and they confessed to their crime.
During questioning, the mother confessed to aborting the foetus.
The mother also admitted that she got rid of the foetus with the help of another countrywoman, and explained how she buried it.
She was staying illegally in the country.
