Dubai: Dubai Police is seeking the help of Interpol, to retrieve 20 new cars stolen from the UAE and exported to Iran and Afghanistan.

The cars were smuggled from the country by two Afghan scrap traders who used to hide the cars in the back of a container kept behind scrap car parts.

Four men, the two traders, an Indian driver and a Pakistani assistant, were arrested by the CID.

They have been stealing brand-new four-wheel drives since 2011 and exporting them to an Asian country to be sold.

The police said it is believed that the gang has so far stolen 20 vehicles including 12 last year and eight this year.

Brigadier Khalil Ebrahim Al Mansouri, Director of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), said the late reporting of the theft by the owners delayed the arrest of the culprits.
