Abu Dhabi: The security media department of Abu Dhabi Police has deployed camera-equipped drones to take photos and videos of emergency situations such as traffic jams and accidents on roads.

The High Definition (HD) cameras on drones introduced by the office of Lt General Shaikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, are remote-controlled, the Ministry of Interior on Saturday said.

Major Jamal Al Hosani, Head of Technical Affairs at the Security Media, said seven camera-equipped drones have been deployed, which can shoot the emergency situations that are sometimes inaccessible for photographers, such as traffic accidents and fire incidents, etc. The drones can operate round-the-clock with high efficiency and capture images and videos from very far.

He said the newly-developed drones can live-stream the images and videos of the emergency situations to patrol vehicles and senior officers at the central operations room, which help them take appropriate decisions at once.

These small-size drones are easily remote-controlled by the operators who can send them to a particular destination following the instructions from the central operations room with the approval for flying from the competent authorities.

The drones can replace the personnel who otherwise risk injuries or other hardships while covering emergency situations. The officers can easily communicate each other with the live inputs from the drones and take appropriate decisions.

The ministry is training more of its staff to operate these drones and take advantage of this modern technology, the press release said.
