Abu Dhabi: It's where you watch the rise, fall and rise of humanity throughout time. And it's the first universal museum in the Arab world.

While being universal — with its 23 galleries, and 12 "chapters" — it will also present Arab and regional art in a historical context.

On November 11, Louvre Abu Dhabi will welcome the public to the museum, which has more than 600 permanents exhibits.

To accomodate more people for the 11-11 opening, Louvre Abu Dhabi will be releasing 1,000 extra tickets, according to the museum's management.

"This is your chance to be a part of history in the making!" Louvre Abu Dhabi stated on its Facebook shoutout.

Ticket prices:

Dh60 for adults
Dh30 for 13-22 years
Dh30 for education professionals

The opening, which will see numerous VIP guests including French President Emmanuel Macron, will be a grand affair with four days of celebrations, include a series of performances, workshops and shows, organisers said.

Festivities

These festivities will begin soon after the museum opens to the public at 10am on November 11. During the day, visitors will be able to participate in workshops or take guided tours around the museum, said organisers.

A number of dance and musical performances are also planned for the daytime, and a series of headline acts enthral audiences in the evening.

In addition, the evening of November 11 will also feature a dramatic light-video-theatre performance by French pyrotechnic wizards, Groupe F, to celebrate the collection and architecture of the Louvre Abu Dhabi.

Celebration of diversity

The opening week programme will be a celebration of diversity, bringing together talented musicians, artists and performers from countries spanning the globe, and will offer a colourful and unforgettable experience to launch this project.

To explore Louvre Abu Dhabi’s galleries is to discover art’s role beyond beauty, said organisers.

“Creativity, cross-cultural understanding and humanity’s innate fascination with discovering new ideas and traditions from around the world are at the heart of Louvre Abu Dhabi’s ethos and collections," said Manuel Rabaté, director of Louvre Abu Dhabi.

"Despite our differences that distinguish us, nothing separates us if we meditate in the essence of our humanity. Discover more interesting links that bring us together through the various sections of the Louvre in Abu Dhabi.

"We have more in common than we realize... See humanity in a new light...We do not need to read from the same book to be on the same page...The essence of humanity is in the eyes of history."

These are some of the themes being proposed with the Louvre Abu Dhabi museum.
