Barcelona: A passenger on a Mediterranean cruise ship that was hit by a huge wave describes the ordeal that killed two people aboard as terrifying.

Claude Cremex of Marseille, France, said he was in his room on the Cypriot-owned ship Louis Majesty when the wave hit Wednesday while the ship was off the coast of northeast Spain.

The Louis Cruise Lines said the ship was struck by three "abnormally high" waves up to 26 feet (8 meters) high.

Cremex told The Associated Press he did not see the waves himself, but they smashed glass windshields in a restaurant and sea water flooded many cabins.

Cremex, 73, said "many people were very frightened."

The ship was carrying 1,350 passengers and 580 crew, the Greek coast guard said, adding six people were hurt.
