Sharjah: A woman was killed and another sustained serious injuries after they were hit by a vehicle on Friday night near Ansar Mall.

The Operations Control Room at Sharjah Police were notified about the incident, which took place near Ansar Mall, around 10pm on Friday.

The two women were from Ethiopia, and were knocked down by a speeding Indian woman motorist who was heading to Sharjah from Dubai, a police officer said.

One of the victims was killed immediately in the accident, and her body was transferred to the Forensic Laboratory of Sharjah Police, police said.

"The other victim survived but sustained severe injuries, and she was transferred to Kuwait Hospital to receive necessary treatment," he said, adding that the victims and the woman motorist were between the ages of 27 and 30.

Residents have asked that a pedestrian bridge be built across the road, but there has been nor response from Sharjah Municipality over the years.
