Dubai: A 16-year-old boy died when he rammed the car he was driving into a lamppost and a compound wall in Al Barsha on Wednesday.

The teenager, who didn’t have a driving licence, was speeding and lost control of the vehicle, a senior Dubai Police official said.

Major-General Mohammad Saif Al Zafein, Chief of Dubai Police Traffic Department said on Thursday that the Emirati boy was killed because he was speeding in a residential area.

The crash took place at 7.30pm near Al Barsha Mall.

The victim was speeding on a three-lane road where the speed limit is 60 km/h.

“The victim was over speeding and he lost control veering down from the middle track to the right and rammed into the lamppost on the way to the compound wall,” said Major-General Al Zafein.

The impact of the crash was such that the car forced its way through the wall and stopped 45 metres beyond.

“The boy was severely injured and he was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital,” said Major-General Al Zafein.

Major General Al Zafein urged parents to keep an eye on children.

“Children must not drive car without licence,” he said.

He said parents should take all the responsibility for such reckless, careless and negligent behaviour from their children.
