A big blue raindrop called Splashy and a big red lightning bolt called Sparky have descended on Dubai during Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS) and are on hand at the Bur Juman and Wafi malls as well as at the Ice Village at the Dubai Expo Centre to entertain and educate youngsters and their families about careful conservation and safety practices.

Splashy and Sparky have initiated membership in the Sparky and Splashy Club, which is open to all Dubai residents, expatriates, and visitors who sign up at these special venues during this year's DSS. Membership in the club is part of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority's (Dewa) Conservation Campaign initiative coordinated by Amal Koshak, Planning Engineer (Generation) and Ice Surprises committee member. "We look forward to seeing thousands of families who visit our stands to enjoy meeting Splashy and Sparky and to make a pledge to be conscientious about water and electricity use and safety," she said.

Those who sign up for membership will also have the opportunity to pick up forms for participation in energy and water conservation competition. "Splashy and Sparky Club membership will help make us all feel good about working together for social and environmental responsibility," Koshak said.

The competition gives ten families the opportunity to win Dh1,000 each as part of Dewa sponsorship of DSS-2004 Ice Surprises activities. Ten other winners will each receive a fire extinguisher after demonstrating excellent safety practices at home.
