Dubai: Muslim Brotherhood tweeters who insulted Emiratis defending their nation on the social network should be prosecuted, Lt Gen Dahi Khalfan Tamim, Chief of Dubai Police, said.
Lt Gen Dahi yesterday called on the federal attorney general to take legal action against the group of tweeters from the Muslim Brotherhood who had described Emiratis as barking persons.
"Some Emirati citizens, who were defending the UAE and its rulers against verbal insults and negative criticism, have been called nabbeeha [barking persons]. I call on the country's top member of the judiciary to take legal action against that faction of tweeters, who abused our nation and leaders. Is defending someone's nation or ruler considered barking?" Lt Gen Dahi told an audience of lawyers and members of the judiciary yesterday.
Addressing more than 500 members of the judicial sector in a seminar titled ‘Social networking websites and its influence on the UAE community', Dahi accused the Muslim Brotherhood of abusing the freedom available on social networking websites and turning them to ‘social disharmony websites'.
"Dubai Police launched a campaign that aims at cautioning the public against the abuse of social networking websites and the hazards that it brings to the community. We aim to clean Twitter's space from any abuse. We want to make it a social networking medium and not a tool to create disharmony and disintegration. Our country's security and safety is a top priority… we will do whatever it costs to protect our country against any attack or abuse," he added.
The Muslim Brotherhood's tweeters have a political agenda through which they aim to propagate that the UAE's leaders and judiciary are corrupt.
"Today, we tell those tweeters that our country and people won't sit back and watch. We will stand up firm against those tweeters and defend our nation and rulers. We also tell them that they will have to face seven leaders and not one," Lt Gen Dahi said.
