A new technique called drilling to the limit (DTL) to be tested on an Upper Zakum well this month will provide a breakthrough performance, reduce cost and maximise the value of wells, according to a report in the latest bulletin of the Abu Dhabi Marine Operating Co (Adma-Opco).
"It will open a new chapter in the time-honoured drilling history of Adma-Opco," the report added.
DTL's pilot by rig Junana is considered vital for the drilling division and to Adma-Opco as a whole, drilling manager Ibrahim Al Suwaidi said. "It is expected to play an important part in boosting drilling performance."
The drilling division recently organised a workshop. The group deliberations resulted in drawing up a work programme which will be conducted on the well. If the new technique proves successful, drilling time will be reduced by 44 per cent.
