Sharjah: Maraya Art Centre will host a new fund-raising roadshow from August 13-31 dubbed MobipixUAE which is part of a series of mobile phone photography exhibitions across the UAE.
MobipixUAE is a small group of mobile photographers from different nationalities that originated in the Dubai in 2013. According to their website they came together in an Instagram account, @mobipix.uae, to promote mobile photography and showcase talents whether they are emerging, enthusiasts or professionals.
Eight of MobipixUAE members will exhibit their work along with some of the work of 100cameras’ young photographers from South Sudan, Cuba and India.
The roadshow aims to raise funds for 100Cameras, a registered NGO based in New York since 2009. The 100cameras group empowers children in different countries, by allowing them to create tangible change in their communities by teaching them to capture their lives through photography.
The roadshow was first launched in July at A4 Space at Alserkal Avenue Arts District.
The NGO then sells the children’s photographs and givse 100 per cent of purchases back to the community, allowing children to participate in the 100Cameras programme and to fund local lifeline, education, and health-care needs.
All prints from the roadshow are for sale at affordable prices, with all proceeds going to 100Cameras.
These proceeds will in turn be given to the family of the young photographer.
There will be a documentary screening at the opening evening and the founder of Mobixpix UAE, Reem Saeed, will present the vision behind Mobipix UAE x 100Cameras.
