Gulf Piping Co (GPC), a 100 per cent national company, has almost completed a multi-million dirham project to pre-fabricate gas-gathering modules sub-contracted by ABB Lumus Global BV and Entrepose SA, a senior company official said. The project involves seven modules of around 3,000 tonnes.

The main contract was secured by ABB Lumus Global BV and Entrepose SA from Shell Petroleum Development Co, Nigeria.

All the companies involved in the project achieved over one million man hours without any lost time incidents, proof that the time invested in such a programme was well worth the effort, director Fritz Hofbauer said.

Last year, GPC became a member of the German major Babcock-Borsig Power Co. This has made more facilities available and increased the services and products it has to offer for the onshore/offshore oil and gas businesses, container cranes, power station and desalination plants.

GPC has won many contracts in its specialised areas and has built upon its success by manufacturing over 150 container cranes, has participated in the construction of over 20 FPSOs (floating, production, storage and offloading) and constructed over 50 single-point mooring buoys.

"GPC believes that the two main reasons for its continued success and growth is the company's commitment to safety and quality," he said.

GPC was established in the early 1980s and since then has steadily grown both in size and the services it has to offer. The company's core business is the manufacture of container cranes, offshore mooring systems and pre-assembled units for the offshore industry.

The company also manufactures bridges, LPG vessels, storage tanks and power station components, the result of which is a production of of container cranes, offshore mooring systems and pre-assembled units comprising structural steel, equipment, piping, pre-commissioning/commissioning activities, reaching between 25,000 to 30,000 tonnes per anum.
