Abu Dhabi/Ras Al Khaimah: President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan has issued federal decree No 6 for 2006 naming members of the Federal National Council.
The list contains the names of the 40 members, according to a WAM report.
Later, His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, chaired the Cabinet meeting yesterday.
The Cabinet meeting was held in the presence of Shaikh Sultan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Shaikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister.
During the meeting, the Cabinet endorsed the new membership of the Federal National Council (FNC).
The house membership of the 14th legislative chapter will now be passed to the office of the president for issuance of a decree calling the house to convene.
The Cabinet passed a decision, stipulating that GCC nationals working in the private sector must be treated on par with UAE nationals in the ministry of labour.
The Council appointed Sultan Bin Saeed Al Mansouri, Minister of Governmental Sector Development as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Transport Authority.
Fatima Al Mazroui, an appointed member from Abu Dhabi, expressed her joy. She said: "I thank Shaikh Khalifa and Shaikh Mohammad for this. I believe the nine women will play a pivotal role in the FNC, which I hope will become stronger." Fatima, who teaches Arabic language at UAE University, said she will raise vital issues such as education and national identity.
Nidal Al Tunaiji, appointed from Ras Al Khaimah, is an assistant professor at UAE University and teaches E-learning. "Once I received the news, I felt there was a lot of responsibility on my shouldlers."
