Dubai: Dubai Police will be showcasing 15 new smart services and technologies at Gitex 2015, including the Smart Police Officer, which is reminiscent of RoboCop.
Colonel Khalid Al Razooqi, Director of Dubai Police’s Smart Services, on Monday said Dubai Police now have a total of 82 smart services, excluding the 15 that will be showcased at Gitex. “We will also be showcasing new devices that will be fitted in the smart police patrols,” he said.
A virtual sniper training programme, the Traffic status certificate on the Dubai police app, accident notifications, the Smart Attendance service for Dubai Police employees, and fine notification on Apple Watch are some of the new features that will be showcased at Gitex this year.
“We will have interactive games at our stall and we encourage the public to participate, as they can stand a chance to win some gifts. We will also be drawing names of people who use the app most and award them during Gitex,” Col Al Razooqi said.
Ten Dubai Police departments will showcase their smart services.
Dubai Police currently provide 34 channels to communicate with them.
Col Al Razooqi said that a total of 553,927 transactions were conducted through Dubai Police smart services, of which 381,718 were on smartphones and 172,209 through computers.
Between January and September this year, Dubai Police’s website had more than 115.8 million visitors as well as 3.68 million transactions, while there were more than 10.3 million transactions through the mobile app.
The Dubai Police app was downloaded on Apple and Android phones more than 914.3 million times.
“We have noticed that people’s interest in using our smart services has grown since last year. We also noticed that more people are using the app instead of the website, which was not the case last year,” Col Al Razooqi said.
“We saw that 44 per cent of people used our smart services for their transactions in 2015, an increase from 26 per cent in 2014. Also, the payments made through smart services have gone up from 21 per cent in 2014 to 31 per cent this year,” he said.
In the first nine months of 2015, there were a total of more than 14.07 million smart transactions, whether on the website or through the application, worth more than Dh169.8 million.
Since October 2014, 21,188 people downloaded the “report a minor accident” since its launch a year ago.
The app is available in the six official languages of the UN — Arabic, English, French, German, Russian, and Chinese. Users mostly use the Arabic version, followed by English and Chinese.
