Abu Dhabi: Under the patronage of Her Highness Shaikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, Supreme Chairperson of the Family Development Foundation and Chairperson of UAE Women’s Federation, the Health Authority-Abu Dhabi (HAAD) on Thursday announced the Cancer Wave Health Promotion Project.
The campaign aims to raise public awareness about the disease and the need to detect it early enough besides highlighting lifestyle changes that can ward off various forms of the disease.
Cancer in its many forms is the third major cause of death in the emirate of Abu Dhabi after heart disease and road accidents.
Announcing the launch of the campaign during a press conference held at HAAD headquarters, Zeid Al Siksek, the health care regulator’s CEO, said Shaikha Fatima had taken a big interest in the project. “The patronage of Shaikha Fatima to public health promotion programmes run by HAAD is a reflection of Her Highness’s personal interest in the health of the society and the importance of health education in improving our society and improve the quality of life for all residents in the emirate,” he said.
During the 2012-2013 campaign, HAAD will organise community outreach programmes to raise awareness on breast cancer, cervical cancer and colorectal cancer and highlight measures for their early detection and prevention.
