Abu Dhabi: The government here on Wednesday launched a call centre to improve communication between the public, government departments and authorities.

The Abu Dhabi Contact Centre was launched by Shaikh Hamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, chairman of Abu Dhabi's Crown Prince Court, and attended by Shaikh Sultan Bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, chairman of the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA), and members of the executive council, including Mohamad Al Bawardi and Khaldoun Bin Mubarak.

"This new achievement comes within the framework of our endeavours to become one of the five best governments in the world. It will enhance the services provided by the government for citizens, residents, tourists, and businesses," Shaikh Hamed said at the inauguration.

The contact centre, which people can reach via a 24/7 toll free number, will not only provide information and answer inquiries related to the services provided by government entities, but will also help the public through any steps needed for specific services, from registering a newborn child to applications for a commercial licence. The public will receive a full response within 48 hours of the initial call.

"This is yet another step forward in our efforts to provide better services for the public from all the different departments in general," Shaikh Sultan told Gulf News.

"As far as ADTA is concerned, we have already established a portal for them last year, and this centre will support our efforts, because the public or professionals and companies can now have access to all our services through the call centre, even detailed services such as hotel booking," Shaikh Hamed said.

Shaikh Hamed launched the new centre by making the first call, thereby putting into place another key component of the Abu Dhabi Government Services Optimisation Programme, across all 27 government entities.

The contact centre is coordinated and supervised by the Abu Dhabi Systems and Information Committee (ADSIC).

"The 24/7 contact centre will provide a vast range of services, including extending information about the location and working hours of our various departments to details about documentation requirements, government procedures, applicable laws and visa regulations," Rashid Al Mansoori, ADSIC's chairman, said.
