Abu Dhabi ‘Back to school’ after a long summer break is a harrowing time for children and their parents alike.

After long hours of watching TV, staying up late and eating junk food, it is a big shift in routine for kids, even as health concerns come to the fore.

Recognising the need for help during this phase, the Medeor 24x7 Hospital in Abu Dhabi has introduced free consultations for children. The aim is to enable them to get a safe and healthy start for the school year.

The campaign running till September 7 includes free medical consultations by paediatricians, dentists, opthalmologists and ENT, orthopaedic and neurology specialists.

“This is a good time to get a health check done against common and sometimes uncommon childhood diseases,” said Dr Lalu Chacko, chief medical officer at Medeor 24x7.

Dr Chacko said he usually sees a spurt in the number of cases of viral and bacterial infections, allergies, common cold and cough when schools reopen.

“Back to School is not just about preparing kids with new kits, but also ensuring that their health makes the grade. Our objective is to reach as many children as possible before their new term starts,” he said.

The free eye check-ups are timely and useful as they help determine if a child’s vision is normal for schoolwork and other activities, added Dr Chacko.
