As a resident of Greece cluster in International City, I often pass by the nearby lake during my morning walks. It is a very beautiful body of water and it has allowed nature to do what it will. Every day, I observe the resident birds of this lake, which are of different varieties and colours. It is a relaxing oasis in the middle of the desert.
This is why I was very upset to see that recently, many birds have been dying near the lake and the number of deaths is increasing every day. I believe it is due to pollution.
Earlier, I came across birds with broken wings and used to take them home to try healing them. Once they were better, I would then return them to the environment. It would be ideal if there were an organisation or group that could offer professional help, to treat and return these birds to Nature.
Lots of people enter the lake premises and throw their garbage in the water. Such people should be prohibited from doing so and penalised. Additionally, I often see people fishing in the lake, which is also dangerous to their health, considering the impact it is having on the birds.
There is a waste water disposal area approximately 10 to 15 minutes away from the lake and I think it may be the reason for this pollution. I am really worried about the birds and do not want the area to lose its beauty and charm.
On calling the Dubai Municipality, I was told someone would be sent to investigate the issue, but I hope this is done soon, as it is becoming an environmental threat. By bringing the issue to the concerned authorities' attention, I hope to help reduce the number of avian deaths in the area.
