Sharjah: At least 202 individuals in Sharjah were evacuated to emergency shelters following severe rain-induced damage to their residences, officials stated on Tuesday.
The prompt action by the Sharjah Police and Emergency, Crisis, and Disaster Management Team facilitated the accommodation and assistance of these affected individuals in response to the heavy rainfall.
The Sharjah Department of Housing said it mobilised all its teams to evacuate residents from the affected areas and provide immediate aid during the heavy weekend downpour.
The coordinated efforts of various authorities and strategic partners were crucial in containing the repercussions of the weather condition.
Mobilisation
A total of 1,096 police officers and 473 police patrols were mobilised to ensure community security, address emergency situations, and manage traffic flow, especially on roads affected by rainwater accumulation.
The readiness of security personnel in the operations room to respond efficiently to reports and communications, and the provision of support and assistance in multiple languages, including Arabic, English, and Urdu, were essential aspects of the response.
Call centres
During the period, the operations room received 24,166 calls through the hotline numbers 999 and 901.
The Department of Media and Public Relations utilised various media platforms to disseminate awareness and guidance to the public.
The Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Team emphasises the importance of public response to government warnings and expresses appreciation for the efforts of response teams and partners in containing the situation.
