Dubai: Results of this year’s GCSE examinations show that Dubai students continue to perform well in the international examination.
The GCSE results for students enrolled at British curriculum schools in the UAE would determine the universities that they will attend.
Among the schools that ranked highly this year are British schools under GEMS education, which witnessed an upward trend across all schools.
GEMS Jumeirah College for example saw 46 per cent achieving A*-A grades, and the Cambridge International School had 45 per cent with A*-A grades. This is comparable to the UK national average of 22 per cent.
Remarkable performances from individual students included Sabahat Ahmad, Aditya Gangal and Abigail Rowden from Jumeirah College, who each obtained 10 A* and 2 A grades. At Cambridge High School, Ahmad Tarek Al Kindi, Isha Akram, Tricia Petrina Sharon Rosario and Subhasree Biswas obtained 8 A* grades.
Speaking on the results Margaret Atack, group senior director — Education, GEMS Education, said:“ These results, which continue to be well above UAE, UK, IB and International norms, do not just happen. They are a result of the exceptional inputs from the students themselves, our teaching staff, and of equal importance, engagement of GEMS parents in their child’s learning journey.”
Dubai British School was also among the high performers. Thirty nine per cent of DSB student grades are A* — A this year, a five per cent increase on last year’s results.
Among the high achievers were Safiya Sayed, who achieved 9A* and 1A and is hoping to pursue a medical degree at Cambridge after A levels.
Al Diyafah High School. Peter Winder, executive principal told Gulf News that the school did well despite changes in curriculum.
“Parents, students and our teachers have been anxious than usual about receiving GCSE results due to the change in the courses. Especially when it came to science subjects like Biology, Physics and Chemistry which are now more comprehensive. Despite the changes I am delighted that ADHS students have once again out shined and made us proud by achieving great results in their GCSE exams.”
