Dubai: A blacksmith who molested a senior American diplomat as she was walking back to her residence in Dubai has been jailed for three months.

The American diplomat had just made some purchases from a nearby supermarket when the Pakistani blacksmith took her by surprise from the back and groped her in a passageway between two buildings in Bur Dubai in September.

The Dubai Court of First Instance convicted the Pakistani of molesting the woman despite having his contending that he touched her by mistake.

Presiding judge Fahd Al Shamsi said on Wednesday that the accused will be deported following the completion of his punishment.

The diplomat was walking back to her place, according to records, when the defendant molested her after she had stopped for a few minutes to check her mobile.

“I am not guilty. I didn’t do it on purpose and it happened by mistake,” the accused told the court.

Then he contended before presiding judge Al Shamsi that following his detention, he filed from his confinement an online plea to prosecutors, admitting that he molested the woman and sought forgiveness.

Records said the diplomat scolded the 39-year-old accused when he groped her and pushed him away before he fled around 10pm.

The American testified that she had just put the goods on the ground of the passageway and had leant against the wall to check her phone when the defendant touched her inappropriately.

She said that he ran away immediately after she yelled at him and pushed him away.

The blacksmith was quoted as admitting to prosecutors that he was seduced by the devil when he spotted the woman in a poorly lit passageway and molested her.

Wednesday’s ruling remains subject to appeal within 15 days.
