Dubai: A set of 12 forged passports were seized from a group at Dubai Airport by an officer from the residency department, said a senior official from the Ministry of Interior.

Major General Mohammad Ahmad Al Merri, Director-General of the General Directorate for Residency and Foreigners in Dubai (GDRFA), told Gulf News: “One of our staff was checking the passports of a group of travellers transiting through terminal 2 from their country to Iraq. He found out that all the passports were forged. Our staff is always on alert and put in every effort to check this problem, which occurs frequently here.”

He said the iris scans of the passengers were taken and they were banned for life from entering the UAE. They were deported to the country from were they came.

Brigadier Obaid Muhair Bin Suroor, Deputy Director General of the GDRFA, honoured Hussain Mullah for his prompt reaction. “We are keen to encourage our employees and we value their efforts to maintain the safety and security of the country,” he said.

Lieutenant Colonel Khalifa Balqhoba, Assistant Director-General of the Ports and Borders Sector, said the sense of security is very high among GDRFA employees.
