Bionicle: The Legend Reborn
Voices Michael Dorn, Jim Cummings, Marla Sokoloff
Director Mark Baldo
Genre Animation/Adventure
Rating PG

Action fans who have been watching the Bionicle movie series over the years will like this instalment which is presented in association with the Lego group.

The hero, Mata Nui, was the ruler of an unspecified universe. He was betrayed, his power usurped and his people enslaved. His spirit, however, survived and was confined to a mask. As the movie opens, there is a volcanic explosion and we see the mask hurtling into space and landing on a planet called Bara Magna. This is a world of beautifully sculpted metallic creatures and Nui finds himself transformed into one of them. He begins the quest to find the entity that deposed him, but before that he has to find solutions to the problems plaguing Bara Magna.

Sea monsters: A prehistoric adventure 3-D
Narrator Liev Schrieber
Director Sean MacLeod Phillips
Genre Documentary/Animation
Rating G

As the name suggests, Sea Monsters: A Prehistoric Adventure 3-D focuses on life in the vast oceans during the late Cretaceous period. The Nat Geo production follows the exploits of Dolichorhynchops, a plesiosaur fondly nicknamed Dolly. The mix of impressive CGI and real-life actors helps weave an evocative and, at times, emotional tale. It's entertaining, but the 3-D aspect is all but a gimmick. Even if you do swallow your pride and don the silly red and cyan glasses (four pairs included), there are plenty of ghost images and a lot of colour definition is lost. Happily however, there is also a 2-D version on the disc - which somewhat defeats the purpose.
