It’s back. This time, with a brand new show. Two years after it last performed in the UAE, Cirque du Soleil returns to Dubai with one of its signature productions, Varekai. The show will run from September 16 to 24 at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

Varekai, pronounced ver·ay·’kie, means “wherever” in Romani, the language spoken by Romanis or gypsies. Directed by Dominic Champagne, the show pays tribute to the nomadic soul and to the spirit and art of the circus tradition, say UAE promoters Alchemy Project. It was first performed in 2002 in Montreal, Canada, the circus company’s birthplace, and has since been seen by more than 10 million people around the world.

Cirque du Soleil last performed in the city in 2014 with Michael Jackson: The Immortal Tour, a mash-up of circus moves and the late pop idol’s music. It’s also brought Dralion in 2013, Alegria in 2009 and Quidam in 2006.
