Dubai: The traditional workplace as we know it is rapidly changing and companies are letting their employees work remotely. While setting up an office, employers must keep in mind to invest in good ergonomic office furniture that is practical and economical at the same time.

Invest in a good chair that provides ample support to your body. Without a good chair, it is impossible to create a comfortable workstation.

Another thing that people often overlook while purchasing office furniture is a monitor arm and screen. Your posture is guided by your eyes and hands. A monitor arm helps position your screen at the right place for you to view it from the correct distance while sitting back in your chair. Without this (and we see this happen so often) people end up hunching forward to view either their laptop or their screen which is usually pushed to the back of their desk. This is very uncomfortable and bad for the back and posture.

Create an ambience

Your work environment should be calm and tranquil with proper lighting and organisation of space. Set an inviting tone by minimising overhead lighting and using side, controllable task lamps. This is important because monitors are best viewed in dimly-lit settings as they emit light. The implementation of ‘dual-source’ lighting will lower your energy requirements. Keeping your desk clutter-free or organised in a way that allows a proper work flow will lead to increase efficiency and productivity.

Don’t be tempted to get comfortable on the sofa with your computer on your lap if you’re working for more than half of an hour. If you are truly working remotely, ensure you create a proper setting with a supportive chair, eye level surface for your screen, adequate lighting and don’t forget to take micro-breaks every hour to walk around and rest your eyes.

Finally, it is important to create a dedicated workspace so you can still ‘leave work’ at the end of the day.
