The team comprises of members of the Walking With The Wounded (WWTW) organization that was established in 2010, as a military charity for injured veterans in the UK and Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, who is also the official Expedition Patron, has shared a motivational video message to the team.

“In just 21 days, they will be trekking 400 kilometres across Oman, including part of world’s largest sand desert, in severe temperatures. I am proud to once again support them,” he said. The Duke also spoke about the continued support WWTW provides to ex-servicemen and women.

WWTW works to support vulnerable veterans to re-integrate them back into society, sustain their independence and provide them employment as well.

Walk of Oman 2020 will see the expedition members undertake an arduous yet ambitious trek across the mountainous sand dunes of Oman that will be made even tougher with the accompanying paraphernalia. The team will be carrying a custom-built cart weighing in excess of 100kg with the supplies they will need for the 21-day expedition, testing the team’s willpower and teamwork.

All the team members of this trek, which will be ending on the 11th December celebrated as Oman’s Armed Forces Day, suffer physical or psychological injuries from their time in Service. The aim of this walk is to demonstrate the courage and determination of those overcoming injury. A distance of about 400km will be done with the members clocking between 20km to 22km per day, in temperature reaching as high as 95°F.

The expedition will run in partnership with the Omani Armed Forces, with support of the Royal Office of HM Sultan Haitham bin Tariq. Since Walking With The Wounded was founded, the expeditions have taken teams of ex-servicemen and women to the North Pole, South Pole, Everest and across Britain and the USA. The (Grenadier) Walk of Oman 2020 marks their 5th international expedition that helps showcase the grit, determination, and resilience of those who served.
