Muscat: With the demand for livestock on the rise ahead of Eid Al Adha, the Royal Oman Police (ROP) have foiled a sheep-rustling ring in Buraimi.
“The Buraimi Police received several complaints of the theft of sheep,” a spokesman for the ROP said on Tuesday.
He added that an investigation by the police team led them to a gang of four.
“They had kept all the stolen sheep in an abandoned house in the Ghariffa area,” he added.
The police, after keeping watch, raided the premises when the alleged perpetrators of the crime visited.
“The accused have confessed so far to stealing 48 sheep,” the spokesman said, adding the stolen livestock were recovered and handed over to their rightful owners.
Meanwhile, Buraimi Police have also arrested a man and three accomplices on charges of setting fire to an Omani’s vehicle.
“The man who set the car on fire has been arrested and his three accomplices have also been held for abetting the crime,” the spokesman added.
